Beijing Union University is a comprehensive university of Beijing Municipality approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. It is one of the first batch of pilot colleges for high-level sports teams in Beijing, a key applied talent training base in Beijing, a national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program implementation university, and a member unit of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance.The school's predecessor was 36 branch schools founded by Tsinghua University and Peking University in 1978. In March 1985, Beijing Union University was founded. In May 1985, the school of Chemical Engineering (former branch of Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology), the Institute of electrified railway (former branch of North Jiaotong University) and the school of Aerospace Engineering (former third branch of Beijing Aeronautical College) were merged into Beijing Union University. In July, 2008, it was transferred to Beijing University of technology and information technology, which was established in Peking University.As of September 2018, the university has 8 campuses, covering an area of more than 600 mu and a construction area of more than 500000 square meters. It has 15 secondary colleges, 64 undergraduate majors, 9 academic master's degree authorized disciplines, 11 professional master's degree authorized categories, nearly 1600 full-time teachers and more than 20000 full-time students.
