Shandong University of traditional Chinese medicine was founded in 1958. In 1978, it was identified as a national key university of traditional Chinese medicine. In 1981, it became a key university in Shandong Province. In 1996, it was renamed Shandong University of traditional Chinese medicine with the approval of the former State Education Commission.
